A printed table cover is one of the cheapest pieces of branding you will buy for an event — and one of the easiest to ruin. Coffee, marker pens, mud and a damp storage box do more damage to your marketing budget than any competitor will. Here is how to keep covers looking sharp season after season.

Know Your Fabric and Print First

Most exhibition table covers are knitted stretch fabric printed by dye-sublimation, where the ink is fused into the fibre rather than sitting on the surface. That construction survives handling far better than surface-printed banner material, but it is still fabric: heat, bleach and abrasive cleaning will shorten its life. If you are unsure how yours is made, ask the supplier before washing it.

• Dye-sublimation print — durable print that does not crack or peel in normal use.
• Knitted stretch fabric — recovers its shape, but dislikes high heat.
• Waterproof finish — a benefit on the table, but it also means water alone does not always lift greasy marks, so clean promptly.

Between Events: A Two-Minute Refresh

1. Shake the cover out and check for marks while the fabric is still fresh.
2. Spot clean with a soft cloth, cool water and a small amount of mild soap.
3. Air dry completely before folding — a damp cover stored in a bag is how mildew starts.
4. Check seams and the printed area for wear before it goes back on the shelf.

Washing a Printed Table Cover

• Confirm with your supplier first whether your cover is machine washable; knitted covers usually are, but the care instruction for your specific fabric wins.
• If machine washing is approved, use a cool, gentle cycle with a mild detergent and similar colours only.
• Never use bleach, harsh solvents or fabric softener — they attack both the ink and the stretch fibre.
• Air dry where possible; if a dryer is used, keep it on the lowest heat setting, since high heat is the fastest way to damage stretch fabric.
• Test any cleaning product on a hidden area, such as the inside of the back panel, before using it on the front.

• Label the bag with the table size if you use more than one cover size across events.

Storage

Store covers clean, dry, folded and out of direct sunlight, away from damp garages and unheated store rooms where condensation forms. Avoid stacking so that a hard edge presses into the printed area for months. A cover that is packed correctly will come out of the bag looking almost as good as the day it was printed.

When to Replace the Cover Instead

• Fading that no longer matches your brand colours.
• Stains that will not lift from the front panel.
• A rebrand or campaign change — a new printed cover is far cheaper than a new display setup.
• A new table size — a cover that is stretched or loose never looks right.
