Almost every disappointing table cloth order comes down to the same mistake: measuring the tabletop and ignoring everything below it. A cover that is the right length but the wrong drop either leaves the table legs exposed or pools on the floor where people walk.
This guide explains how to measure a table properly, what a drop is, and how to specify the cover you actually want.
Step 1: Measure the Table, Not the Tabletop
You need three numbers before anything else:
- Length — the long edge of the tabletop.
- Width — the short edge.
- Height — from the floor to the top surface. Standard folding tables are commonly around 30 inches high, but measure yours rather than assuming.
Where the table has an unusual shape, a fixed shelf, or a non-standard height, note it. Custom-made covers can be produced to those dimensions; stock sizes usually cannot.
Step 2: Decide What You Want the Cover to Do
- Cover the top only, or cover the sides too? A booth table is usually covered on all visible sides, because boxes and bags live underneath.
- Do you need floor-length coverage? Floor-length hides everything below the tabletop and reads as a solid, finished block.
- Will people sit or stand at the table? Seated visitors see the front panel at eye level, which makes that panel the most valuable print area.
Step 3: Understand the Drop
The drop is the distance the fabric hangs below the edge of the tabletop. It is the single measurement that changes how formal a table looks:

Step 4: Match the Cover Type to the Sizing Logic
Different cover types are measured differently, which is where buyers get caught out:

If you are ordering a fitted cover, give the table dimensions and the supplier handles the rest. If you are ordering a draped cloth, you must state the drop — a floor-length drape is not simply a bigger tabletop size.
Step 5: Plan the Printed Area
On a covered booth table, the front panel does the selling. Two things decide whether your logo lands where people can see it:
- Where the tabletop furniture sits. Products, stands and literature racks obscure the upper area; place the main logo lower on the front panel, in the zone that stays visible.
- Where chairs and people sit. Chairs hide the centre and lower area. On tables with seating, repeat the logo or use a strong band of brand colour so something always shows.

- Table length, width and height, measured to the floor.
- Number of visible sides that need covering.
- Required drop, or confirmation that the cover is fitted to the table.
- Whether the cover must fit over a shelf or brace.
- Colour match to your booth graphics and backdrop.
- Logo placement agreed against the visible front panel.
